Sections of the Journal

NEW RESEARCH

This section is intended for original academic works of various genres: analytical surveys of the evolution of management research in international scientific literature, theoretical frameworks addressing new developments and trends in management practice, empirical studies using statistical techniques and mathematical models. The general requirement is adherence to the well-known standards: clear definition of the author’s hypothesis and approaches within the "frame of reference" of existing literature on the subject and related fields, clear statement and substantiation of the novelty of research, well-structured exposition and conclusions, and so on.

PRACTICE OF MANAGEMENT

Submissions dealing with practice of management may present the results of a field study, or may take the form of interviews with leading international and Russian business figures, or their own articles sharing their personal experiences in managing their companies, or round-table discussions between scholars, business consultants and management practitioners. RMJ also welcomes case studies providing insight into the experiences of Russian and foreign companies dealing with important management issues.

METHODOLOGY OF MANAGEMENT RESEARCH

The chief purpose of this section is to introduce Rssian researchers to the state of the art in contemporary management research and to invite readers to a discussion of methodological issues related to organizational and strategic management theory. In the last decade, these fields have been the scene of increasingly active methodological discussions, and their participants are still far from reaching a consensus.

MODERN CLASSICS

This section of RMJ will be devoted to regular thematic collections of annotated translations of articles from leading scientific peer-reviewed journals as well as more practically oriented publications in the field of management: Strategic Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, Industrial & Corporate Change, Journal of Management Studies, European Management Journal, and others. We will select articles published in the last 10–15 years that have gained recognition as classics of modern theory of general and strategic management. We hope that the publication of these articles will encourage the study of Russian business on the basis of internationally accepted theories of organizational management and market competition.

HISTORY OF MANAGEMENT THOUGHT

This section of RMJ will be dedicated to research concerned with the genesis and evolution of management as a field of science in the 20th century and the role of the leading thinkers and their schools in this formative process. Special emphasis will be placed on the evolution of management thought in Russia, a still under-researched area of study.
We also envision another possible interpretation of this section's title: it may be seen as a forum for discussing the most important historical lessons in the evolution of theories of competitive corporate management.

BOOK REVIEWS

Reviews of books by Russian and foreign authors will be a permanent feature in RJM. In the light of our journal's goals, preference will be given to detailed reviews outlining the place of the book within the framework of modern concepts of general and strategic management. We will welcome thematic collections of reviews covering both research monographs and books reporting the best practices of leading companies or relating careers of successful managers.

CHRONICLE

This section of RMJ will contain reports on the activities of Russian and international professional associations of management researchers and practitioners, on key events taking place at leading business schools and research centers in the management field, and on the results of scientific conferences, symposia, workshops and other forums substantially contributing to the creation, accumulation and dissemination of modern knowledge on successful corporate management in Russia and abroad.
